The Journey

Post by Redisfinallyfree »

No control
Vulnerable
Alone and afraid
Not so brave
Need a hug
Given a smack
I want my daddy
I want my mommy
Not they way they are with me
The way they are with they
No confidence
Out of control
What to do?
No clue
Not safe
Gotta hide
No place
Make it stop
Somebody help!
Nobody does
Be strong
Chin up
Hold on
Got through
This time
Grew up
Still afraid
Learned to cope
No hope
No real control
Still vulnerable
No power
Want to hide
Nervous inside
Let me be
Just want to heal
Life’s tough
I’ve hurt enough
One more try
Learning to fly!

I often dislike the way "resilience" is bandied about in the media ("what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" stuff), but this poem shows genuine resilience. Vulnerability and uncertainty yet persevering despite all the lack of help, connection, guidance, and clarity. Thank you for sharing, Redisfinallyfree. That little girl is amazing!

Redisfinallyfree, this is a gut wrenching powerful journey of a poem. Even the style it’s written in is like a journey to me. I feel your toughness and persistence like Oceantide said. I’m cheering you on. Fly, fly!

Oceantide and Paper. Thank you both so much for your kind and affirming words. I was too emotional to even say thanks before now. You both touched my heart so much, both saying words I so longed to hear as a child. Thank you.
