How to Deal with Triggers

Post by jrholman »

Hi, iSurvive Family,

Have any of you found ways to deal with or lessen the effects of your triggers? For example, I'm triggered by incest jokes and when people talk about miscarriage. Seeing anything that has to do with babies or sex for example is triggering. One therapist suggested watching X-rated content to break my fear of sexual intercourse. It scared me yet made me feel curious. However, it also made me hope no one would ever touch me again.

Sending hope and peace,

JRHolman

"Coping With Trauma-Related Dissociation: Skills Training for Patients and Their Therapists" by SUZETTE BOON, KATHY STEELE, ONNO VAN DER HART

This is the best book I have ever read with skills training that makes sense and works for me.

A scar is the tattoo of a triumph to be proud of. It says the hurt is over and the wound is closed. It means you conquered the pain, learned a lesson, grew stronger, and moved forward. There is a beauty in my scars that I can see now.
