walking through the flames
with a smile on my face

taking a deep breath in
when i'm already drowning

asking how i am
as fire flows from my skin

telling happy lies
while truth seeps through my eyes

learning silence
from repeated violence

visiting the battlefield
without bringing a shield

playing your game
and bearing the shame

trusting when i hear
there is nothing to fear

finding the nerve to share
and expecting you to care

taking all the blame
feeling my personality drain

watching the world turn grey
pretending to be okay

extinguishing flames
with gasoline

consuming poisons
to destroy toxins

staying awake
though my eyelids ache

climbing the wall
but fearing the fall

failing to see
the safety offered to me

running away
though i know i should stay

obtaining all i've longed for
and still desperate for more

focusing on my scars
wondering why i can't see stars

covering my eyes
looking for clear skies

shivering in fright
as the sun shines bright

believing when you say
the wounds will heal one day

giving up the fight
when i can almost see the light

avoiding the cold
by returning to the hole

continuing to hold on
when all hope is gone

laughing through the pain
and doing it all again
