Oh what a wonderful idea. :) (Aaand I just noticed that this is an old thread I didn't notice, somehow. :lol:)

There's one that's mentioned on the forums a bit and I found very useful a while back - Brene Brown's talk on compassion and vulnerability. There is a line from it that stuck with me and I found particularly helpful, along the lines of you can't "selectively numb" emotions. It made a lot of sense of the healing process and why my original coping mechanisms didn't really work for longer term. :)

Last session with my T we were working on fears. For me, fear of people, failure, trust and others. She recommended I watch a video by Brene Brown. She is a psychotherapy researcher. She makes presentations to those who are in social work training. This one is “The Power of Vulnerability”. It’s about 20 minutes long. The main focus is about the need for vulnerability. I’ve watched it six times now and like it more each time I see it. It is really good. She is also pretty funny in the way she presents it.

Jonesy has given me permission to share the link so everyone can view it, if you would like to. It has over 56,000,000 views so some of you may have already seen it. The link is to TED. They put out talks on line for companies. The link is:

https://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_t ... anguage=en

If you have trouble with it, you can search Brene Brown the power of vulnerability. Look for videos. That will get you there.

Would love to here what everyone thinks of it. It’s given me a better understanding of why we need it.

Hi Eagle,

Thank you for the link. Just had a look and realise I have seen this one before and recall it was very good. I'll take another look though as it's always useful to revisit them.

Thanks,

I love Berne browns talks. Have done book studies at work. Have changed my views and thought processes. Challenging thought patterns established by abusers.

I think this may only be of interest to me, but I thought I'd share it...

"Extreme Healing: The Catharsis of Heavy Metal" | Michael LaRocco | TEDxBellarmineU
https://youtu.be/7xxjCbSXLww
For most of his life, Mike has been obsessed with heavy metal music. He listens to it every day, plays in metal bands, and features it in his academic research. Despite the fact that it is often dissonant, aggressive, ugly, and even violent, it brings him joy and calm like no other genre of music, and during the immense stresses of the COVID pandemic, the brutality of heavy metal provided healing and catharsis. Mike’s talk addresses these apparent contradictions, speaks to the surprising benefits of aggressive music, and considers how extreme times often call for extreme soundtracks.

This study is also enlightening. It confirms what I have always told people and how I feel when listening to metal. (Study into heavy metal and links to anger and emotional processing.)

Briefer version here;

Also, this article below is triggering, so please take care if you decide to read it... (Contains lyrics about child abuse.)

I hope these other Web addresses are okay typed out with 'dot' replacing the actual dots in the urls. (I've seen others do this on the forum.)

Really interesting reads for anyone interested.
