I wonder
How it is that your heart hardened
Became a fortress
Set adamantly against me
While I had been and sought to remain
Your ardent ally?

The pedestal you stood atop
Though you lost no luster in my eyes
Now tilts, has cracked
Pain shadows my view

I ask, Where have you fled
And why?
I never held a spear, offered no critiques
But covered your flaws or averted my eyes

A long road we trod, arms linked
Delighted, kindred spirits
Easy and comfortable

Now pointed words pierce me
I sink beneath your disfavor
Sickened in my soul
Perplexed, bewildered
I cry.
I cry.
