When sabotage stopped
When the cravings that called
Were no longer sought
A beauty arose
When I broke from my chains
When I found who I was
Beneath all the pain
A strength arose
When I lived with the hurt
When finally it lingered
But I did not revert
Self pride arose
When fear did not last
When deep in my heart
I felt free from the past

Just as the title suggests. I like that I'm reading two possible scenarios that could be behind it... either way, the point comes across nicely.
