The sun hits my soft cheeks
The heat soothing on my skin
I stare off, eyes lifeless
Imagining I’m safe
Waiting for my life to begin
The soft buzzing of the engine
Drowning out the endless voices
The sight of the vipers
Gut- wrenching and raw
My imagination gives me choices
Disappearing into a new world
Peace for just a time
I’m away from piercing realities
I’m inside, my eyes protected
No longer hurting while alive.
Floating above them all
Like an angel up so high
A balloon drifting away freely
An alternative life I can derive
The whistling of the highway
I see foggy murals of light
Staring out the window,
in my world
where everything’s alright.

Hey Chessgirl,
I've been reading back through some of the poems, and it's amazing how poetry can read differently and speak clearer at different times.
I really like this Chessgirl, and the imagery you've used. I hadn't appreciated on first read last month how much I like this one.

Thank you crow! Yes I’m reading through my grandmothers book of poems which I did not appreciate at the time of her passing. They resonate with me so much now! You are so right!
