This is Love!

Post by coconuts »

Felt the need to write a flip of the other poem i posted earlier. (This is love?) Because as a child it seemed such a foreign thing. Something I didnt feel I deserved. Still not ao sure I deserve it but I treasure it. And I honor it.

This Is Love!

Tiny toes and curly red hair,
I wrap him so gently,
I wonder and stare.

I hold him so softly and soothe his sad cries.
I rock him so careful,
And learn new lullabies.

I hold those small hands as he toddles around.
I laugh when he giggles,
What a glorious sound.

Then the songs turn to books that we read every night
I take one last peak before closing the door.
My heart grows each day at this tender sight.

Soon he's the one who is reading to me.
He learns and he grows,
Its so fun to see.

We count all the pennies to pay for his things.
For pants he grows out of as fast as can be.
For lessons in soccer, piano, swimming.

He's taller than me and keeps growing so fast.
He sings in the choir,
Plays soccer and track.

We travel to concerts we travel to meets.
I watch as he wins
I watch the defeats.

He holds up his license so full of pride
I wonder how do I
Actually allow him to drive!

He stands with his luggage so tall and so smart.
I sob as I hold him.
Its breaking my heart.

He rolls his smart eyes and he gives me a grin.
Then squeezes me tight.
As his new life begins.

He calls home to mom and I treasure his voice.
He shares his ambitions, the dreams and the struggles.
Then asks for advice and makes his next choice.

I thank all the heavens and stars up above
For that the gift Ive been given to know
THIS is love.

Thanks crow and chessgirl. Yes just based on my eldest. I could probably write one for each child but I figured he was my first experience. I remember sitting there holding him as a baby feeling so overwhelmed by the love I felt for him and his connection and need and later love for me. Its something i didnt understand til i had my own children. It makes the past and lack in my own childhood a little more bitter but its still such a beautiful thing
