ICD 11

Post by Kenazandisaz »

So the new edition of ICD has been published. I've read some summaries of the changes and it looks promising. C-PTSD made it in. Personality disorders got a complete overhaul and being trans is no longer a disorder. I'll be doing proper geeking out detailed reading when I'm not so tired. Don't think I could take the information in tonight.

Anyone have opinions on the changes?

Edited a grammatical mistake.

International classification of diseases. It's produced by the World health organisation. The 'blue book' is derived from it and that is the diagnostic manual used for mental health conditions and developmental disorders in the UK.

The new ICD won't be approved for use until next year at least, and it will be longer still before diagnostic criteria get updated, but it's still a big deal when the new edition gets published. At least if you are a massive geek with a special interest in mental health and developmental disorders and nothing better to do than read classification manual updates.

USA tends to use the DSM from the American Psychological Association (i think its APA), but my T uses both and others for our "off the record" conversations about what's really going on with me.

Edit: changed out to our, typo.

I still haven't gone down that rabbit hole. Chronic spoon deficit this week. I will come back to this once the exhaustion and fog lift, and we can debate some. That would be fun.
