Disturbed band - promoting mental health awareness

Post by johnram »

Wondered if anyone was aware of the Metal / Rock band and their promotion of mental health awareness - specifically depression and addiction

They are doing a segment in all their concerts which is quite touching (where they get the audience to lift their hands up if they have experienced or know someone who has experienced these issues, and you get a large large portion of the crowd raising their hand), and is partly a response to the deaths of Chester (Linkin ParK), and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden).

Wondered if people listen to their music, had a connection to these things, or had any thoughts

thanks

I put as MT - as the mention of Chester / Chris can be triggering for people in those circles

Hi johnram,

Thank you for your concern for other members and caution with the trigger indicators, but we base it on level of detail within a post, which is why I've changed the trigger indicator to NT.

I used to listen to Disturbed in my younger days, and still sometimes do (I find myself drawn to their cover of "The Sound Of Silence" sometimes). I wasn't aware they were doing these segments during their shows, but I think that is fabulous. There needs to be more awareness and less stigma, and people with the ability to reach so many people spreading awareness and compassion is a wonderful thing.

Thanks for posting this.

the song "The Light" always makes me cry, these lyric usually gets me

"Don't be afraid, don't turn away
You’re the one who can redefine it
Don't let hope become a memory
Let the shadow permeate your mind and
Reveal the thoughts that were tucked away
So that the door can be opened again
Within your darkest memories
Lies the answer if you dare to find it
Don't let hope become a memory"
