This is a biography about a high achieving boy who was sexually abused by his mother and beaten by his step father. Did not find it helpful because was expecting a strong emotional reaction but did not get it. This could be because my experience or personality is too different to the author's or it could be that his account was told factually and not emotionally as in this is what happened but not as in this is how I felt. This is a good read but not a healing read for me. Unfortunately cannot recommend it for these reasons. It reminds me somewhat of Angela's Ashes [Scribner, 1996] by Frank McCourt which is a great book but for me at least did not help me develop self empathy.
