Robert Browning

Hello everyone,

I’m happy to see this area in the forums, I love how writing is therapeutic for me & I love poetry. Although what I want to write today isn’t mine, they are lines from the poem “Rabi Ben Ezra” by Robert Browning. This poem to me is about moving forward through life without dread. Anyway, I’ve liberated some of this poem & that I would share it. The poem makes me imagine that I’m having a conversation with my wife:

“Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand”

Another part I can relate to:

“All I could never be,
All, men ignored in me,
This, I was worth to God, whose wheel the pitcher shaped.”

Hello there,

I first read Browning’s work in a Brit Lit class, but I kept reading him afterwards. I love the story of how he & his wife, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, met, married & lived out there lives. It had some similarities to Romeo & Juliet, only it was real. I’m glad that you enjoyed those borrowed lines.

By the way, I admire your quotes! Especially the last one!
