Hello everyone.

Sometime I get the urge to write my feelings in the style of a poem. This is one of those poems.

I wish I was a beautiful woman

A beautiful woman has elegance, confidence, power

A beautiful woman receives gifts smiles, kindness

A beautiful woman gains respect, prestige, a good life

I could be beautiful but I can’t grant myself this wish
I prefer to dream about it, long for it, but never behold it
Being a beautiful woman means a clear mind
Clear not as in naïve or stupid
Clear as in the absence of evil, weakness, ugliness.

Events from my past too ugly to remember keep me numb and distant
and because of it I’m not a beautiful woman.
I was given this mind from a young age, before I could even speak
Now I can speak, run, think
but somehow I’m still in prison
I like my prison; it’s familiar comfortable and warm

I wasn’t raised to be a beautiful person, many of us aren’t
Beauty is not instinctual to me,
My Prison is

Now I’m getting older, wiser.
Shall I choose to live in comfort, confined in my small space waiting for my skin to turn grey, shriveled and cold?
Or should I fight for the beauty that was stolen from me, tare down my prison and become a beautiful woman?
