FEAR THROUGH THE AGES:
Sadly I can describe
Every developmental stage
Of fear felt by a child
Throughout their growing years
Fear as a four year old
Is mainly terror
Panic rules the mind
And escape rules the body
Struggling pointlessly
And wasting energy
Until there is nothing
Left to fight with
Fear as a six year old
Is mainly horror
Feeling dumbfounded
Mute and motionless
Confusion reigns
The world is too scary
You start to blank out
So you don’t remember anything
Fear as an eight year old
Is mainly dread
A sense of resignation
A posture of defeat
Feeling like a lead weight
Is sitting on your chest
You know the only option
Is to do whatever is asked
Fear as a ten year old
Is felt from a distance
You have no energy
To do anything about it
Numb and detached
You disappear into
A little world of
Your own imagination
Fear as a teenager
Is mixed with defiance
And a front
Of great bravado
And added to that
Is fear of discovery
Of the secrets
Of your family
Fear after that
Is a mixture of
All of the fears
Described above
Bouncing around
Inside your head
You never know
Which one will emerge
Sadly I still experience
Every developmental stage
Of fear felt by a child
Throughout their growing years

Unacknowledged One,
Yes. Can identify with every single line. Thank you so much for putting this into words so well.

Yes. This is really great. Wow. I'm sorry you went through this. I can relate. Your words show courage beyond your experience.
