Praising thin skin.

Post by Closeyclo »

I have skin as thin as butterfly wings.
And I hope to love it despite societal lessons.
That we should have skin harder than reinforced steel.
There's beauty in the tears that fall for another's pain.
And strength in living in a world of suffering
but remaining kind in spite of it.
In the land where we are taught to hide our hearts
Lest they bleed out and people see.
I intend to make artwork of my own.
Display it proudly. Watch with glittering eyes as other people identify with the hell that brought me here.
Show the scars this cruel world has left across my skin and see others find their stories waiting amid the healing wounds.
Because in the end, I might be the girl who cries for fictional characters.
I can't pass those in pain without major guilt.
But I'm also the girl who at 24, still feels childish excitement at christmas lights.
Who doesn't read a book so much as I feel it through to my bones.
I am someone who when beautiful music plays
I experience it on my skin like static electricity.
Letting the emotions hit like tsunamis
I ride on the melodies, tracing their rises and falls like the peaks and troughs of life.
My thin skin lets me feel everything.
A soaring high for every all-consuming low.
For every breath I've lost to tears of despiar, I've lost a thousand more to laughter.
And though sometimes the weight of the world crushes me and my skin cracks under the pressure.
I am grateful for my gossamer skin and a heart adorned sleeve.

Closeyclo,
Wow! Just great. My thin skin thanks you, too!
All women are beautiful. Period.
I deserve better than survival.
